Who Is a Good Candidate for Cosmetic Acupuncture in Towson, MD?
One of the questions I hear most often is, “Am I a good candidate for cosmetic acupuncture?”
The answer depends less on your age and more on what you would like to accomplish.
Cosmetic acupuncture in Towson, MD can be a good choice for adults who want a natural, gradual approach to caring for their skin—whether you’re beginning to notice changes or have been seeing them for years.
Cosmetic Acupuncture Isn’t About Looking 20 Again
I believe aging is a privilege.
Our faces change as we get older, and I don’t think every line needs to disappear. Laugh lines, expression lines, and other changes are part of our story.
The goal of cosmetic acupuncture is different. It is designed to support your skin, soften some of the visible signs of aging, and help you look refreshed while still looking like yourself.
That distinction is important to me.
What Can Cosmetic Acupuncture Address?
Cosmetic acupuncture uses very fine needles placed at specific points on the face and body. Treatment may help support circulation and the skin’s natural repair processes while addressing facial muscle tension and tone.
People often come to me because they would like to improve the appearance of:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Dull or tired-looking skin
Uneven skin tone or texture
Facial puffiness
Areas of facial tension
Loss of firmness or definition
Overall skin appearance and healthy glow
It can also be used preventively by people who are not yet concerned about significant signs of aging but want to take a proactive approach to their skin.
Who Is a Good Fit?
You may be a good candidate for cosmetic acupuncture if you:
Prefer gradual, natural-looking changes
Want a nonsurgical approach to facial care
Want treatment without the downtime associated with some cosmetic procedures
Are interested in caring for your skin as part of your overall health
Want to soften signs of aging rather than dramatically change your appearance
Prefer individualized treatment rather than a one-size-fits-all facial
There is no single “right” age to begin.
I see cosmetic acupuncture as something that can be adapted to the individual. Someone in their 30s may have very different goals from someone in their 60s or 70s—and that is exactly why I don't treat every face the same way.
What Makes My Approach Different?
When you come to my Towson office for cosmetic acupuncture, I don't treat only your face.
Each facial acupuncture treatment also includes body acupuncture.
Why?
Because your skin doesn't exist separately from the rest of you. Stress, sleep, muscle tension and other aspects of your health can influence how you feel and how you look.
I have practiced acupuncture for more than 25 years and have more than 34 years of experience in healthcare. I combine that experience with specialized training in facial acupuncture and facial techniques to create treatment based on the individual sitting in front of me.
And because I schedule one patient at a time, your appointment is your time. I don't move back and forth between treatment rooms or double-book patients.
What If You Get Botox or Fillers?
You don't necessarily have to choose between cosmetic acupuncture and injectable treatments.
Some people choose cosmetic acupuncture because they want to avoid Botox or fillers. Others use cosmetic acupuncture as part of a skincare routine that also includes treatments performed by another qualified provider.
They work differently.
Botulinum toxin injections temporarily reduce activity in selected muscles. Dermal fillers add volume in targeted areas. Cosmetic acupuncture takes a different approach, using acupuncture techniques intended to support circulation, facial muscle balance and the skin's natural processes.
If you've recently had Botox, filler or another cosmetic procedure, tell me before we begin treatment. Timing matters, and we can determine when it is appropriate to begin or resume facial acupuncture.
Is Cosmetic Acupuncture Right for Everyone?
Not necessarily.
Your health history matters. Certain medical conditions, pregnancy, active skin problems, recent procedures, medications or other circumstances may affect whether facial acupuncture is appropriate for you or whether we should modify or postpone treatment.
For example, if migraines or significant headaches are your primary concern, I may recommend addressing those with general acupuncture before focusing on cosmetic treatment.
This is one reason I prefer to speak with prospective patients before their first appointment.
Aging Gracefully—Without Trying to Erase Yourself
For me, aging gracefully doesn't mean pretending we aren't getting older.
It means taking care of ourselves as we do.
Cosmetic acupuncture isn't intended to give you someone else's face. My goal is to help you care for the face you already have—to support healthier-looking skin, soften what can reasonably be softened, and help you feel good when you look in the mirror.
If that sounds more appealing to you than chasing perfection, cosmetic acupuncture may be worth exploring.
Is Cosmetic Acupuncture in Towson, MD Right for You?
If you're wondering whether cosmetic acupuncture is appropriate for your skin, age, health history or cosmetic goals, the first step is a conversation.
I offer a free 15–30 minute phone consultation so we can talk about what you would like to address and whether my approach is a good fit for you.
